The XINXIA custom-shaped EPE foam sealing gasket is designed for sealing, gap filling and cushioning at the connection points of plastic components. Made from lightweight expanded polyethylene foam, the gasket can be die-cut into elongated strips, oval pads, rings, frames and other irregular shapes according to customer drawings or physical samples. Holes, slots, notches and positioning structures can also be customized to match screws, clips, pipes and assembly points.

When compressed between two plastic parts, the flexible EPE foam conforms to small surface variations and helps reduce gaps, vibration, friction, dust entry and assembly noise. The product is suitable for plastic housings, equipment covers, appliance components, smart furniture, electronic enclosures and other OEM products.

Cause: Why Plastic Component Joints Require a Sealing Gasket

Injection-molded plastic parts may appear flat and uniform, but small dimensional tolerances, surface irregularities and assembly variations can create gaps at the connection points. These gaps may allow dust, moisture or air to enter the housing. They can also cause vibration, friction, movement and noise during product operation or transportation.

Direct contact between two hard plastic surfaces may produce additional problems. Screws and clips can create concentrated pressure at certain positions, while other areas remain insufficiently compressed. Repeated vibration may cause rattling, surface wear or reduced assembly stability.

The gasket is placed between two plastic components before final assembly. When the parts are connected by screws, clips, ultrasonic welding or another fastening method, the EPE foam is compressed. This compression helps fill the joint and creates a cushioning barrier between the plastic surfaces.

How It Works

The EPE foam gasket works through controlled compression.

Before assembly, the gasket is positioned on the connection surface of the first plastic component. Holes, slots and outer edges align with the screws, locating pins and joint contour.

When the second plastic component is installed, the EPE foam is compressed between the two surfaces. The foam deforms slightly and follows minor surface variations. This helps fill uneven gaps and distribute pressure across the connection area.

The compressed foam also creates a cushioning layer that separates the two hard plastic surfaces. This layer can help reduce vibration, friction, impact and assembly noise.

The final sealing effect depends on the foam thickness, density, compression level, joint design and surface condition. For applications requiring a specific dustproof, moisture-resistant or airtight performance, testing should be completed using the final plastic assembly.

How to Choose the Correct EPE Foam Sealing Gasket
  1. Please provide the joint dimensions, outer contour, screw-hole positions and available gasket installation space. A complete assembly drawing is more useful than an individual gasket drawing.
  2. The original gap between the two plastic parts affects the required foam thickness. The gasket should be thick enough to create compression without causing deformation of the plastic housing.
  3. Softer foam is suitable for light compression and irregular surfaces. Higher-density material may provide stronger support but requires greater assembly pressure.
  4. Tell us whether the gasket is mainly required for gap filling, dust reduction, vibration control, cushioning, noise reduction or surface protection. Different functions may require different material structures.
  5. Screw holes, locating holes, pipe openings, electrical connectors and clips must be accurately positioned in the gasket. Please mark these dimensions clearly on the drawing.
  6. Adhesive backing can make assembly easier by holding the gasket on the first plastic component. However, adhesive selection depends on the plastic material, surface energy and operating environment.
